Behind every mummy

Dietro ogni mummia c'è una storia che merita di essere raccontata
Behind every mummy, behind every artifact, there is a story waiting to be told. That is the mission that guides me.
I am Sabina Malgora — archaeologist specialized in Egyptology, PhD, museum curator, and passionate science communicator.I founded and direct the Mummy Project, a one-of-a-kind research center and an international point of reference for the study, enhancement, and sharing of ancient culture. Here, the diverse expertise of an all-female team of specialists gives voice to the most mysterious and fascinating witnesses of antiquity: mummies.

Specializing in the analysis of human and animal mummies, whose silence has been preserved through time, I use the most advanced forensic techniques to weave together science and mystery in a journey that bridges archaeology, medicine, and technology. But this research is not just about uncovering secrets — it’s about restoring identity and dignity to people and beings who still have stories to tell.

Yet my work doesn’t end in the laboratory. I bring these stories to museums, exhibitions, and educational projects. because the past should not remain sealed in a sarcophagus — it should move, surprise, inspire, and speak to each of us. My work encompasses research, curation, outreach, education, and management, always with a multidisciplinary and innovative approach, creating experiences designed to engage and inspire.

I am the author of numerous publications, and the creator of exhibitions, restorations, museum sections, and educational projects that reveal to the public the secrets of the culture of the land of the Nile. I am passionate about promoting lesser-known Egyptian collections and the museums that preserve them, increasing their visibility and visitor engagement through a fresh and surprising perspective.
I love every aspect of ancient Egyptian civilization — especially its funerary world, medicine, architecture, food, and wine.
I deeply believe that archaeology is not dust and silence.
It is life. It is memory. It is a dialogue that continues.
And I am here, every day, to try to translate that voice — and share it with all of you.
